Spire Health Fitness & Community Center Project Update

Many Geraldine residents and recent visitors have noticed increased activity at the future home of the Spire Health Fitness & Community Center. We are excited to share an update on the significant progress that has been made over the past several months.

The project site, formerly occupied by a grocery store and post office, was previously identified by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as a Brownfield site due to environmental contamination. Through a collaborative effort between Spire Health, the Town of Geraldine, and Bear Paw Development Corporation, we secured a substantial Brownfield Cleanup Grant to fund much of the remediation work.

We are pleased to announce that the environmental cleanup project was successfully completed on June 5, 2026, by Patrick Construction of Havre. This milestone represents years of planning, coordination, and partnership, and it moves us one step closer to making our vision a reality.

In addition, Spire Health was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Planning Grant, sponsored by the Town of Geraldine and Bear Paw Development Corporation. This grant funded 80% of the cost of a Preliminary Architectural Report (PAR), which was completed and submitted by Slate Architecture of Helena on March 31, 2026.

Throughout the planning process, community input revealed a need that extends beyond a traditional health and wellness facility. Residents expressed a strong desire for a dedicated community gathering space in addition to fitness and wellness services. As a result, the project vision has evolved from a 6,000-square-foot health center into a nearly 12,000-square-foot Fitness & Community Center designed to better serve the diverse needs of Geraldine and the surrounding area.

The completion of both the Brownfield remediation and Preliminary Architectural Report are major milestones that position us to pursue the next phase of development. We are currently preparing applications for several large-scale grant opportunities that will help fund construction of the facility. Current estimates place the project cost at just under $5 million, with an anticipated construction timeline of approximately 20 months.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the citizens of Geraldine and our many supporters whose encouragement and contributions have helped bring this project to this stage. We would also like to thank the Town of Geraldine, Bear Paw Development Corporation, Granite Peak Environmental, Anthony Houtz with Cushing Terrell, Patrick Construction, Slate Architecture, and the many individuals and organizations who have contributed their time, expertise, and support along the way.

This project would not be where it is today without the collective effort of our community and partners. We are excited about the progress made so far and look forward to sharing additional updates as we continue moving toward construction.

If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to contact any member of the Spire Health Board of Directors.

Thank you for your continued support.

The future of wellness and community in Geraldine is taking shape.

Our Building

Our Vision

Health. Opportunity. Access.

Spire Health Inc. will provide our rural community and surrounding area with a 6,000 SF facility to provide physical and recreational opportunities at an affordable price in order to improve the general health and wellness, and enhance the quality of life of our citizens. In rural Montana, resources are limited and the health of our community is becoming ever important. As our citizens age, they are undergoing orthopedic surgeries or cardiovascular procedures and recovery goes beyond the initial stages of rehab. It is important that these individuals have the opportunity to continue with independent programs to ensure progress and return to prior levels of function. Children and grandchildren, who are accustomed to facilities and fitness resources in other towns and cities, are returning home to take over farm and ranch operations and so it is important to have these opportunities available upon their return. Additionally, the recent pandemic has demonstrated the importance of cardiovascular health in order to survive and recover from illnesses. We hope to serve as a rural outreach location for health care access to reduce travel for our community members by providing monthly well-child, adult and elderly services, yearly health clinics, and education through quarterly newsletters.

Within our new facility will be a group fitness studio, cycle studio, functional training area, a large cardio area, free weight and circuit training area, rentable community meeting space, and several rentable treatment room spaces for health professionals (physical therapy, massage therapy, counseling, health coaching, nutrition, etc.).
